Description

Cobalt chloride Hexahydrate is the most usually supplied form of Cobalt chloride. The hexahydrate is purple colour. Solid CoCl2·6H2O consists of the molecule trans-[CoCl2(H2O)4] and two molecules of water of crystallization. This species dissolves readily in water and alcohol. CoCl2·6H2O is deliquescent, and the anhydrous salt CoCl2 is hygroscopic. Cobalt chloride Hexahydrate have wide uses : Invisible ink; humidity and water indicator; in hygrometers; tempereture indicator in grinding; in electroplating; for painting on glass and porcelain; preparation of catalysts; fertilizer and feed additive; foam stabilizer in beer; as absorbent for military poison gas and ammonia; in manufacture of vitamin B12. Radioactive cobalt chloride, 57CoCl2 (half-life 271.79 days, pure gamma emitter) used in Mssbauer effect (nuclear clock).

Storage Information: Hygroscopic. Keep tightly closed.
